The Ausable Club, in St. Huberts, New York, is cradled in the Adirondack Mountain Reserve (AMR), which was formed in 1887 to save the lands from lumbering. The Reserve once owned most of the Adirondack High Peaks and is also the home of the Adirondack Trail Improvement Society, known as A.T.I.S, which developed and still maintains many of the trails. The present clubhouse, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, sits on the 600-acre site of Beede's Hotel, built in 1876. Beede's was one of the first of the Adirondack hotels to cater to sportsmen eager to escape city life during the summer, was notorious for its austere accommodations, but no less famous for its setting near Upper and Lower Ausable Lakes and the Ausable River, and for its views of Giant and Noonmark Mountains, Sawteeth and Mount Colvin. Guides were available to lead parties up the rocky ravine of the Ausable to lean-to shelters on the lakes, and thence to the high peaks above. The club has suffered remarkably little change, maintaining a rustic feel for those who wish to retreat to hike, swim, boat, and fish in the mountain air.

How to get there;
From the South - take Interstate 87 North to Exit 30. Turn left at the bottom of the ramp towards Keene Valley and Lake Placid for 2 miles, where you will come to the intersection of Route 9 and Route 73. At that intersection merge onto NYS Route 73 towards Keene Valley and Lake Placid. After approximately 6 miles you will transcend a grouping of down hill slopes. At the bottom of these hills, Ausable Road is on the left hand side. There is a white sign next to the road with a forest green "AC Private" next to the road sign. Turn onto Ausable Road and drive up the hill to the Clubhouse. (The drive from NYC is a little less than 4 and a half hours.)
From Lake Placid - take NYS Route 73 South out of Lake Placid and follow signs towards Keene. Stay on Route 73 through Keene and Keene Valley and continue for about 4 miles. You will see a road sign that says "St. Huberts". About 500 yards past this sign, the Ausable Road will be on your right hand side. There is a white sign next to the road with a forest green "AC Private" next to the road sign. Turn right onto Ausable Road and drive up the hill to the Clubhouse.
Nearest Airports - the Adirondack Regional Airport is 27 miles from The Ausable Club, Plattsburgh International Airport is 37, and Albany International Airport is 98 miles away.
A Note on Communication; there is internet at the Ausable club, but limited cell service. About 20 min before the Keene Valley exit on 87 North, those of you with at&t will loose service for the weekend, and will not be able to find it unless you climb a mountain. If you have verizon, you'll fare better, with spotty service around the area.
